Sensors

Small, highly versatile sensors and fiber-optic probes for the reliable test of LEDs - at minimum cost - meeting the needs of most component, circuit-board and finished product LED test requirements and fixture installation constraints. As the optical equivalent of in-circuit test (ICT) electrical probes, Universal LightProbe Sensors combined with a wide range of fiber-optic probes ensure the reliable and accurate test of color and intensity for almost every LED color and brightness.

Reduces overall test time, and is designed to be compatible with today’s high-density fixtures. The sensors are durable, operating from +5 to +40 volts and able to withstand reverse polarity up to -18 volts. Plus, the extremely popular Trident fiber-optic probes enable the sequential test of three LEDs with a single sensor for further cost savings.

Penta Sensor
Most popular and standard type. Simple and easy to use. Quick response.
Reads LED color wavelengths and color binning of 5 standard colors plus white.
Color results are easy to obtain by different voltage value for each color.

Spectra Sensor
Can test LED colors which are in-between, such as yellow-green.
Some colors look green but the wavelength values tend to be close to yellow. Also, some colors are close to yellow but customers want to define it as “green”. Customers can set the pass/fail standard values for this “green”.

Unicolor Sensor
For testing a single color LED.
Only this sensor can test UV and IR as well as LED.

Spectra USB Sensor
You can use a USB cable.
Often used for function testing.

Unicolor Digital Sensor
For testing a single color LED.

Blinx Digital Sensor
For blinking LEDs.

Ultra High Sensitivity Sensor
For very dim LEDs.

Sensor Sensitivity Selection

We offer a selection of Universal LightProbes sensors for testing various intensity LED’s. Testing a very bright LED, for example, might require a “Low Sensitivity” (LS) sensor, to ensure that the sensor does not “over-range,” and testing a dim LED might require a “High-sensitivity” (HS) sensor to detect the LED. Which sensor should be selected is determined by various factors, including
the size of LED under test,
the type of Universal LightProbe Fiber-optic Probe being used for the test,
the air-gap between the fiber-optic probe tip and the LED under test,
or even if the LED is being tested through translucent material of unknown transmission characteristics.
The chart below serves as a guide to determine which sensor and fiber-optic probe is best for your specific test application, by giving the approximate sensitivity ranges. To
determine the intensity of the LED under test, check the LED manufacturer’s data sheet for luminous intensity in millicandelas for a specific forward current.
